Angel Lake is at the end of a paved 12 mile scenic byway. The Winchell and Smith Lake trailheads are along the way and no fees are required for those trailheads. The parking area next to the lake has a $5 fee. Fishing opportunities are abundant at Angel Lake, and it’s well stocked annually with trout. During certain times of the year it is sometimes possible to view Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats, and Himalayan Snowcock in the East Humboldt range. There are also Clark’s Nutcrackers, golden eagles, and a variety of migratory birds during the summer. Yellow-bellied marmots, squirrels and chipmunks are also frequently seen as are mule deer. Angel Lake is accesible seasonally, as the road is typically closed November – late May due to snow.
